I specialise in all aspects of Employment Law whether you are a business or an individual who needs help:
I qualified in 1996 after completing my Law Degree and Legal Practice Course at Nottingham Trent University. I have worked exclusively in Employment Law since 1999, having initially practiced in Dispute Resolution. I joined Gotelee Solicitors in 2002.
I have always acted for both businesses and individuals. Because of this, I know all of the potential pitfalls that employment law holds and all of the tactics that can be used in any employment dispute to fight your corner successfully.
Employment law can be very complex and my role involves me helping you avoid problems in the first place. If a problem has already arisen, I will find a solution to it for you.
Prevention is always better than cure, and so I work closely with employers to ensure that you follow the right procedures and respond to situations appropriately, from beginning to end. I train managers on how to deal with problematic employment issues, which can help you manage risk much more effectively. I am on hand to advise you on how best to handle and resolve situations, so that you can spend your time running and managing your business. If you do find yourself in the unfortunate position of being taken to an Employment Tribunal, I am an experienced tribunal advocate. If you take advice from me at an early stage, I can help you avoid claims in the first place.
With individuals, I will help you make the best tactical decisions, to protect your position and to resolve your employment difficulties in the best way possible for you.
I am always there for my clients and build strong and lasting relationships with those that I work with. Annually, you can see me and the team presenting an overview employment updates to local businesses at our Employment Law Seminar at Trinity Park. We also hold a quarterly HR Forum for more in-depth detail to HR professionals in our conference room.
I help businesses (of all types and sizes) and individuals in relation to any type of employment issue that you may have. Here at Gotelee we can help you for a fixed fee or on a monthly retainer for advice.
The Legal 500 which is an impartial view on legal service providers says (2015): Gotelee Solicitors is ‘fantastic at guiding clients through difficult situations’. Andrew West, who advised a local employer on multiple grievances and race discrimination claims, ‘goes the extra mile’.
In the 2014 edition The Legal 500 commented that Andrew offers ‘crisp assessment of commercial aspects and risk factors’ and the clients of Gotelee Solicitors have ‘no hesitation in recommending the firm’ for HR matters.
Below, a few of my clients have given their views:
“Andrew understands our business and operations well, and we find his approach refreshing – he cuts to the chase and focuses on the important issues. We use Andrew to guide us through all our significant or potentially problematic employment issues so we know that we are on good solid ground. I would be delighted to recommend Andrew to any business that requires help or representation in any employment related matter.” Keith Lewis, Director at Thompson & Morgan (UK) Ltd
“Andrew is highly personable and has a great ability to bring complex legal matters to an understandable level. Always on his game and always on your side. I never felt anything less than confident in his ability to deliver the right result. A thorough professional, who was a real pleasure to work with too.” Tim Kershaw (an individual client)
“Andrew has advised me twice on employment matters. On both occasions I found him to be supportive, empathetic and well-informed. The sensible, realistic solutions he suggested lessened the inevitable stress and made me feel there was light at the end of the tunnel. His response and turn-around times consistently exceeded my expectations and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him to anyone needing advice on employment law” Wendy Quantrill
“Andrew has provided invaluable advice and assistance to me over a number of years and has always been extremely structured and professional in his approach to the variety of issues I have presented him.
He is very personable and easy to get along with and has a knack of explaining complicated legal jargon in a way even a layman like me can grasp!” Nick Hunt, Managing Director, PSP Asset Protection Ltd
When I’m not at Gotelee, I “enjoy” going to the gym and am a keen amateur photographer and a dreadful cook.
